Ingredients
  • Raw banana: 3
  • Green moong: 1/2 cup
  • Shallots: 2-3
  • Grated coconut: 1 cup
  • Garlic: 3-4 pods
  • Green chilly: 1
  • Curry leaves
  • Turmeric powder: 1/2 tsp
  • Cumin powder: 1/2 tsp
  • Dried chilly: 1
  • Mustard seeds
  • Oil
Cuisine: Cooking time: 15-20 mins Serving: 3-4 people

Initial Preparations:

  • Clean the green moong and pressure cook it well along with water and salt , for about 4-5 whistles.
  • Peel the raw banana and cut it into small square pieces.
  • Slice shallots and garlic into fine pieces.
  • Grind together grated coconut, 1/4 tsp turmeric powder, cumin powder, garlic, green chilly and 1-2 curry leaves.

Kaya (Raw Banana) Thoran

Steps:

  1. In a pan, cook the sliced banana along with 1/4 tsp turmeric powder, enough water and salt.
  2. Transfer this into a bowl and add cooked moong, mix well.
  3. Heat oil in the pan, crackle mustard seeds.
  4. Add dried chilly and curry leaves.
  5. Add the ground mix and fry it well , stir continuously.
  6. Add the cooked moong banana mix and saute well.

Goes well with rice.. 🙂
