  • Kovakka: 1 cup
  • Onion: 1 (small)
  • Small onions: 2-3
  • Grated coconut: 1/2 cup
  • Turmeric powder: 1/4 tsp
  • Cumin powder: 1/4 tsp
  • Garlic: 3-4 pods
  • Salt
  • Curry leaves
  • Dried chilly: 1
  • Mustard seeds
  • Oil
Cuisine: Cooking time: 15 mins Serving: 3-4 people


Initial Preparations:

  • Chop ivy gourd and onion into small pieces.
  • Slice small onions and garlic into fine pieces.
  • Mix the grated coconut with garlic, curry leaves, turmeric powder and cumin powder using pestle and mortar or in a mixer.


  1. In a pan, cook the ivy gourd pieces, chopped onion with a little water and salt and cover it with a lid.
  2. Meanwhile, heat oil in another pan, crackle mustard seeds.
  3. Add small onions, dried chilly, curry leaves and mix well.
  4. Add the coconut mix to it and saute them well.
  5. Put the above mix into the already cooked ivy gourd pieces and cover it for a few minutes.
  6. Combine well until the water content evaporates.
  7. Serve it hot with warm rice!!!
