  • Pavakka (Bitter gourd) : 1
  • Onion: 1
  • Grated coconut: 1/2 - 3/4 cup
  • Dried chilly: 2 nos.
  • Salt: to taste
  • Curry leaves
  • Mustard seeds: 1/2 tsp
  • Oil
Cuisine: Cooking time: 15 mins Serving: 2 people


 Initial Preparations:

  • Clean, wash and keep bitter gourd pieces in water along with salt for half an hour.
  • Chop bitter gourd and onion into thin small pieces.


  1. Heat oil in a pan, splutter mustard seeds.
  2. Add dried chillies and curry leaves.
  3. Add chopped onion with a little salt and saute it well until it turns soft – in a low flame.
  4. Add chopped bitter gourd and stir well. Cover it with a lid.
  5. Make sure this will be cooked in low flame.
  6. When it is almost done, add the grated coconut. Allow it to cook well for few minutes.
  7. Mix well until it dry.
  8. Serve it with rice…
