For Pidi
  • Rice flour : 3 cup
  • Water: 3 cup
  • Ghee: 1/4 tsp
  • Salt
For Mutton Curry
  • Mutton:  1 Kg
  • Onion: 3 Nos(shallots: 20-25 Nos)
  • Potato: 2 Nos
  • Ginger: 1 Tbsp
  • Garlic: 1 Tbsp
  • Tomato: 2 Nos
  • Green Chilly: 4 Nos
  • Curry leaves
  • Turmeric powder: 1/2 tsp + 1/2 tsp
  • Chilly powder: 3 tsp
  • Coriander powder: 3-4 tsp
  • Garam masala: 1/4 tsp
  • Meat masala: 1/4 tsp
  • Pepper powder: 1 tsp + 1 tsp
  • Salt
  • Coriander leaves
  • Mustard seeds
  • O(preferably vegetable oil)il
Cuisine: Cooking time: 45 mins Serving: 4 people


Initial preparation:


  • Boil water in a pan with enough salt and ghee.
  • Boil water in a steamer.
Mutton Curry
  • Marinate mutton with salt, pepper and turmeric powder (for around 20 minutes).
  • Chop onion, garlic, ginger, green chilly and tomato.
  • Peel off the potato.
For Pidi:
  • Once the water get boiled well, sprinkle rice flour and stir it after one minute . Remove from the flame and keep stirring.
  • Once it get a cold enough to handle, knead it well with your hands until it is soft.
  • Make small balls out of the soft dough similar to the one of kozhukatta, and place them in the steamer and cook it until it is done (about 10-15 minutes)



For Mutton Curry:

  • Heat oil in a pan, splutter mustard seeds.
  • Add ginger garlic, then chopped onion with enough salt.
  • Saute well until it is light brown, add green chilly , curry leaves and tomato.
  • Lower the flame and add turmeric powder, chilly powder, coriander powder, pepper powder and meat masala. Mix them well for few minutes.
  • Add marinated mutton with enough water (1 cup) , and combine well.
  • Add garam masala.
  • Transfer this to a pressure cooker, and cook it until the mutton is half cooked (say 4-5 whistles).
  • Open the cooker once the pressure is released and add sliced potato pieces, again pressure cook until the mutton is well cooked , for 1-2 whistles.
  • Transfer the curry to a pan, and keep it in medium flame until it reaches the thickness that you like.
  • Add curry leaves and coriander leaves.
While serving pour the mutton curry on top of the pidi and serve hot.
 If you like you may add shallots (4-5 pieces) and cumin seed  (1/4 tsp) to the pidi mix.
