Ingredients
  • Prawns: 500g
  • Small Onion: 4-5 nos.
  • Big Onion: 3 medium
  • Tomato:1
  • Green Chilly:1-2
  • Curry Leaves:
  • Ginger: medium sized cube
  • Garlic: 8-9 pods
  • Turmeric Powder: half tsp
  • Red chilly Powder: 1 tab sp
  • Coriander Powder: 1 tsp
  • Garam Masala: half tsp
  • Pepper Powder: 1-2 tsp
  •  Coconut Pieces (optional): half cup
  • Salt: as required
  • Mustard seeds
  • Oil

Cuisine: Cooking time: 20-25 mins Serving: 3 people

Initial Preparations:

  • Clean the prawns and keep aside.
  • Cut the small and big onion into small thin pieces.
  • Crush ginger along with garlic.
  • Cut tomato and green chilly into medium pieces.
  • Cut coconut in to thin pieces (optional).

Prawn Masala

 

Steps:

  1. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and add small onions when the mustard starts to splutter.
  2. Add crushed ginger, garlic and curry leaves, saute well.
  3. Add onion, salt and saute well until it turns brown.
  4. Add tomato pieces, green chilly and saute well until it is well mixed.
  5. Add turmeric powder, coriander powder, red chilly powder.
  6. Saute well and add pepper powder.
  7. Add prawns along with a little water , close with a lid and cook well for 10-15 minutes.
  8. Add garam masala and mix well, add more salt if required.
  9. Before taking out from fire add bit more pepper powder and curry leaves.
  10. In another pan fry coconut chunks in oil and put it in to the cooked prawn and mix well before serving.
  11. Goes well with rice, chappathi, appam etc… 😉

Tips:

  • The Onion and tomato must be done well to get the right taste.
  • Don’t add much water while cooking.
