Ingredients
  • Squid: 500g
  • Onion: 3 nos
  • Ginger: 1 cm
  • Garlic: 2 pods
  • Greenchilly: 2 nos
  • Chilly powder: 3/4 tbsp
  • Coriander powder: 1/2 tbsp
  • Black pepper powder: 1/2-3/4 tsp
  • Garam masala: a pinch
  • Grated coconut: 1 cup
  • Mustard seeds: 1/2 tsp
  • Coconut oil: 2Tbsp
  • Curry leaves
  • Salt
For Marination:
  • Ginger garlic paste: 1 tsp
  • Green chillies: 2 nos
  • Cocum (Kudampuli): 1
  • Turmeric powder: a pinch
  • Curry leaves
  • Salt
  • Oil: 1 tsp
Cuisine: Cooking time: 30 mins Serving: 4 people

Initial preparations:

  1. Clean the squid and slice into small rounds. Rub with salt and wash well and drain.
  2. Mix the ingredients for marination with one teaspoon of oil, apply this marinade on the squid slices and keep aside for 30 minutes.
  3. Chop onion, garlic, ginger, green chilly

Koonthal (Squid) Thoran

Steps:

  1. Cook the squid in sufficient water for 35 minutes till the water evaporates completely.
  2. Heat oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds. Add chopped onions, ginger, green chillies, garlic and curry leaves.
  3. Saute well until the onions turn color.
  4. Add chilly powder and coriander powder and saute.
  5. Add the cooked squid and fry well.
  6. Stir in grated coconut, pepper powder, garam masala and required salt. Saute and remove from fire.
  7. Squid(koonthal) thoran is ready to serve.
